Perspective Over Time — Time Lapse of the Northern Lights
The stillness was palpable, but the goosebumps came from tracking the streaks of light that began on Northern horizon, reached over my head, and all the way across the sky, requiring me to turn my body to see find where it ended. The colors were subtle to naked eye against the midnight sky- faint enough that Nikki and my children had gone to left to bed an hour previous. The solitude and stillness left me alone to soak in the reverence and majesty of this rare event- a gift I had niether asked for, nor anticipated. It was just me and my two cameras. Of course they were showing showing a more vivid picture of what was taking place- a 4 second exposure captured every 5 seconds was displaying on the back of my DJI Osmo Action 4, action cam. It turned out to be the perfect tool for the job. Despite the contrast- this was hardly an extreme export with death-defying tricks. No, I was sitting alone on an adirondack-style chair, staring into the northern sky. I also had my Nikon Z5 mirrorless working a 2nd angle. But it was ultimately the footage from the Action Cam I would end up posting.
The reason I love time lapses is because it tells the story you can’t see in real-time.
